  1. Come up with a list of what you are looking for

  2. Shop around. Chances are you can find it somewhere else cheaper.

  3. Start off slowly and be prepared to wait until you find exactly what you want for the amount you are prepared to pay.

There are different grades for comics from MINT to POOR. You will discover when you start collecting that most collectors will grade their comics by these standards. You will find most comic shops have a break down of what the grades mean. These are the grades:

MINT [M]

NEAR MINT [NM]

VERY FINE [VF]

FINE [F]

VERY GOOD [VG]

GODD [G]

FAIR [FR]

POOR [PR]

  1. Once you have some comics which you would like to keep there are some things which you can do to keep them in better shape.

  2. The most common form of storage is a plastic mylar bag.

  3. Backing boards will provide support to the comics to remain flat. This helps avoid creasing, bending and spine damage.

  4. Storage boxes will help keep your comics more secure. It they are packed tightly it will help to stop them moving around and therefore bruise.

  5. And finally the environment you keep them in should be away from sunlight which causes fading, and away from dampness which will cause molding. Also it's best to keep them away from places like attics or basements where insects and bugs could eat them.
