Introduction

Nickelodeon Australia’s commitment to privacy is based upon the principles outlined in the National Privacy Principles (NPPs). The NPP’s are the basis of the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (effective December 21, 2001), which provides for the protection of personal information of Australians.

Nickelodeon is a member of the Australian Direct Marketing Association (ADMA). Nickelodeon’s website is ADMA code compliant. Nickelodeon follows the Direct Marketing Guidelines produced for ADMA members.
Privacy And Security on the Internet

The Nickelodeon Website (www.nickelodeon.com.au) is a place specially created for Australian kids on the world wide web where they can get involved with the Nickelodeon channel, express themselves and above all, play.

At Nickelodeon, we encourage kids (and their parents or guardians) to get as much out of the website as possible, but want to ensure that all website visitors know as much as they can about protecting their private and personal information.

What Information Is Collected At The website?

There are some areas of the website that ask kids to enter personally identifiable information. We have made this safer and easier for the child to use by establishing a NickName and Password facility. This requires the Child to enter in personally identifiable information only once at the time of registration, but after that they only require to put in their NickName and Password. This personal information is added to the Nickelodeon database and is used for the purpose of fulfilling prizes, mailing birthday cards, emailing our newsletters and for other Nickelodeon marketing purposes. The personal information is not on sold to any third party. It is not displayed anywhere in the website.

At any time you can request for your child’s details to be removed from the Nickelodeon Australia database by clicking here, and entering some information about your child. We will stop sending them emails and letters and will remove their details entirely from our records. Please allow five days for this removal process.

The Victorian Gaming No. 2 Act (1997) requires us to keep competition entrants’ details for three years for possible audit purposes. Other Australian states require us to keep such information for up to three months for certain competitions. These details are protected with the same high level security as our database.

Nick-o-Grams & e-cards are animated e-postcards that kids can send to friends and family. The information that is used in Nick-o-Grams resides securely on the server for up to two weeks, simply so the Nick-o-Grams can be used by the sender and recipient. No use however is made of this information by Nickelodeon and after two weeks it is deleted.

Chats

The only chat sessions that occur from time to time in the website are only ever between Kids and our on-air hosts in a specific time period related to a program on-air. When they do occur, all chat sessions are hosted by trained moderators.
Research
From time to time, Nickelodeon may conduct random research via pop-up forms on the website. This is totally voluntary and will request no personal information only stuff like state, age and gender.

Cookies And Log Data

Cookies are information files which your web browser places on your computer when you visit a website. The website is only able to access the cookies that it sets. It sets these to enable the playing of some of our games and activities by visitors to the website. Without these cookies, some of our games would not be playable. You can of course deliberately disable cookies should you wish by checking the appropriate part of your browser preferences or options menus.

Log data is information collected by the website server, which hosts the website. It exists to tell us things like how many visitors we have, how long they stay for each visit, where they go when they’re at the website and what kind of browser and operating system they have. This information is important because we can continually improve what’s in the website as a result. It’s highly secure and only accessible to Nickelodeon Australia. The information it gives us is only ever used in aggregate form. That is, no personal data is collected or used.

Advertoys, Adverwins and Ad Microsites

Advertoys are the online version of web ads and are exclusively games, or ads which kids can play. They are unique to the website and follow very special standards that match those that apply to ads on the Nickelodeon channel. As a result, we ensure our advertisers not to solicit for any personally identifiable information in the Advertoys , or make any direct sales appeals via e-commerce applications. Advertoy icons are clearly marked and separated from website content and can of course be avoided by a website visitor. If they are clicked on however, each one has a "bumper page" which reminds kids they are leaving the website to play an Advertoy.

Adverwins are similar to Advertoys except they are competitions sponsored by an Advertiser.

Ad Micro-sites are branded mini sites which contain games, ecards and message boards.

All Advertoys, Adverwins and Ad Microsites reside on the website web server, the content of which is controlled and managed exclusively by Nickelodeon Australia, adhering to this privacy policy.

E-Commerce

Nickelodeon has recently launched the Nick Shop on www.nickelodeon.com.au, selling Nickelodeon branded products. All terms and conditions and information on the Nick Shop can be found here.

Updates

Nickelodeon Australia reserves the right to change or update these guidelines.

We hope that what we’ve outlined here makes our attitude and approach to privacy and security clear, helping kids and their parents to get the most out of playing in the website. If there’s anything else you would like us to think about, or any comments you would like to make concerning privacy and or security, please e-mail us at feedback@nickelodeon.com.au
