Tak and the Power of Juju

Tak and the Power of Juju follows the comic adventures of Tak, a jungle boy who was given the 'Power of Juju' when he saved the Juju race from certain destruction. As a token of their gratitude, the Jujus gave Tak the Power of Juju. With his Juju powers, Tak is able to access magic usually only available to 177-year-old shaman. And, he is able to summon the outrageous and powerful Jujus at his every whim. For most 14 year olds, Juju power would be a recipe for success, but, because of Tak's particular combination of imagination and irresponsibility, his staff only gets him, his friends, the Pupanunu villagers, and sometimes the Jujus, into trouble.

TAK
Tak was a lowly, 14-year-old shaman's assistant until he unexpectedly attained the Power of Juju, a gift usually only possessed by 177-year-old shamans who have undergone over century-and-a-half of rigorous training. Now, Tak is the sole link between Jujus and the Pupununu tribe. It's his responsibility to keep the balance between the two worlds. Luckily, Tak is an earnest, enthusiastic, smart, and funny young man. He's got good intentions, and he's eager to use his power to help when he can. Unfortunately, he's not very good at controlling his magic yet. But he does his best, and with a little luck and some quick thinking, he usually manages to come out on top.
JEERA
Jeera is the Chief's daughter. She and Tak are best friends, even though they come from opposite ends of the Pupununu social spectrum. She lives in a dull, tradition-bound household and is constantly sneaking away from tribal duties to join Tak. Jeera's rebelliousness is motivated by a unique dilemma: Her oh-so-perfect older sister, Zaria, is next in line to be Chief of the Pupununu tribe. Jeera is dreading the day when Zaria will be the tribal leader, and she’s looking to have as much fun as possible while she still can.
JIBOLBA
Tak's guardian, Jibolba, is the tribe's shaman, although his magical abilities are not very impressive. Jibolba has raised Tak since he was a baby, and has tried to provide him with both discipline and love. Now that Tak has the Power of Juju, Jibolba realizes that Tak must be carefully trained so that he may achieve his destiny. Jibolba also continues to pursue his own magical training, although his potions frequently blow up in his face.
KEEKO
Keeko is the third wheel to Tak and Jeera's complementary duo. Keeko is an original. A deep thinker who thinks about things no one else bothers with, like the color of air, or the inner life of a clam. Keeko is a dreamer, an artist, a jungle intellectual. He has knowledge of seemingly everything. Knowledge that may or may not be true. Keeko often appears at random, frequently just in the nick of time to help Tak with a crisis. Keeko is wise beyond his years. Sadly, it will be years before anyone can figure out what he's saying.
LOK
Lok is a likable buffoon who thinks he is the 'Mighty Warrior' of the Pupununu people, although he has no real evidence to support this. He typically assumes that 'The Lok' or 'The Lokster' (he likes to talk about himself in the third person) was responsible for any great achievement that happens in his general vicinity. Usually, when Lok ties to be heroic, enormous catastrophes occur that Tak has to fix.
SLOG
Slog is the chief hunter for the tribe. She is rugged, completely aware of how massively strong she is, kind hearted, but not afraid of a fight. There is nothing dainty or girlie about Slog. She's a frontier woman, strong and capable. Slog could fight a bear and make it her pet. In other words, she can take care of herself. But she does have feelings. She does not consider herself different, and doesn't like it if people treat her as such. Slog is just another Pupununu far as she's concerned. She has her own way of doing things, and she is unapologetic about it. She is also a huge fan of Lok's. She does not see his bad qualities, only the good. She is playful with Lok. Loves to arm wrestle and put Lok in head locks (which he hates). Tak treats her much the same way he treats Keeko. She is one of the gang, and it is her uniqueness that is the most appealing to him.
ZARIA
Zaria, Jeera's older sister, will be the next chief of the Pupununu People, and she never lets Jeera forget it. She's four years older than Jeera and thinks she knows the proper way to do everything Pupununu. Zaria loves to show off her expertise, and she's always correcting and advising tribal members on matters of dress, ornament, and behavior, supposedly according to the ancient Pupununu traditions. Jeera has a sneaking suspicion that Zaria is making the rules up as she goes, and it drives Jeera crazy that she can't prove it.
