Help with Games
Thanks for climbing into the Nickelodeon Online Treehouse! If you've come to this page because you're having trouble playing one our games, then try some of these tips for getting started.

First of all, you'll need an up-to-date browser. We recommend you use either Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or Netscape Navigator 4 or 5 as your browser. They will help you get the most out of what we do in the Treehouse - and they are free!

Now, how to fix some common problems:

Problem: I clicked the link to a game and after waiting 2 or 3 minutes nothing happened.
Sounds like you are missing the (Shockwave plug-in) software that you need or it is not installed properly or you have an old version. You can test to see if Shockwave is installed properly by clicking here.

Problem: I can get into the game but the colours are all funny and distorted.
Your computer is set to display 16 million colours or more. The games in the Treehouse require 256 colours as the setting for your display. The help notes or user guide that came with your computer will explain how to make the change.

Problem: I've got SHOCKWAVE, but nothing appears where it should be!
Shockwave plug-in installation can be a source of problems, so it's important to check that you have this piece of software properly installed and that you have the most up-to-date version for your browser. If you want to try re-installing the plug-in, you'll find the latest version at
Macromedia. Or you can also find details about how to install SHOCKWAVE and some Frequently Asked Questions (and answers!)

You should restart your browser after you have installed the Plug-in (this often irons out any problems with the installation).

Another thing to bear in mind is that the Internet can sometimes be very slow and some games take a while to download. Depending on your modem speed, it can take between between one minute and five minutes to download the games in the Treehouse.

Problem: My Shockwave plug-in is working fine, so is there some other problem?
A cookie is a small text file that stores details about the games as they are played. It should stay on your computer. On your browser (Explorer or Netscape) you probably need to "enable cookies". This is done in the Preferences or Options Menu. Search your browser's HELP index for "cookie" or "security" to find out more.

For Internet Explorer users, choose "View", then "Internet Options" from the list , then choose the "Advanced" option. Finally, near the bottom of the list you will see the settings for COOKIES and JAVA and JAVASCRIPT. Check the boxes that allow Cookies and Java and JavaScript to be turned ON.

For Netscape users, choose "Edit", then "Preferences", then the "Advanced" option to check your settings.
