See the world through children's eyes
How Does It Work?

Kids aged between 3 and 18 years are invited to submit their photos as we search for THE AUSTRALIAN CHILD, YOUTH & TEEN PHOTOGRAPHERS OF THE YEAR OF 2009.

The Aussie Kids Photo Festival 2009 starts accepting entries on UNICEF supported International Children's Broadcast Day on Wednesday 10 December 2008 just before summer school break. This will give you time to take some fantastic shots during summer and autumn holidays before entries close at midnight on Friday 13 March 2009.

Participation in the Festival is FREE! Instead, we happily encourage participants to donate to UNICEF Australia using the link below.

Each child may enter a portfolio of six photos in the following categories:

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Only ONE PHOTO PER CATEGORY WILL BE ACCEPTED - so don't send in six of your favourite animal photos!
  • Only a COMPLETE portfolio of six photos will be accepted for judging.

The categories are:

Remember, the photos must be taken by your kids and not of them (including the self-portraits of course!) and should fit the category criteria.

A judging panel made up of several professional photographers, an Oscar-winning Director of Photography and celebrity parents will judge the entries. Judging is final.

The 54 category-winning photos will be exhibited from mid April 2009 online and at a spectacular venue in Sydney. Our goal is to give your kids the great feeling of achievement that comes from having their talents exhibited to the public - and to support them as they scratch their creative itches!

Visitors to the digital or live exhibitions of the Best of Show will be able to view and vote for the People's Choice Awards.

SpongeBob SquarePants together with Nickelodeon's hosts, Kyle and Maude, will present over 60 awards, including the Photographers of the Year and People's Choice Awards. The gala award celebration ceremony will take place early May 2009 in Sydney.

Heaps of thrilling prizes, including Xbox360s, digital cameras, photo printing vouchers, games, professionally printed photos on canvas, winners' certificates, custom made t-shirts and passes to major tourist attractions will be presented to the winning photographers.

Funds raised from the Aussie Kids Photo Festival, participants and our partners go to UNICEF Australia, UNICEF is the United Nations Children's Fund. As the world's leading advocate for children, UNICEF works on behalf of children to build a world where the rights of every child are realised, without regard to race or religion.

AFTER THE AWARDS CEREMONY THE 54 AWARD-WINNING PHOTOS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE UNICEF AUSTRALIA FOR EXHIBITION AND AUCTION.

By submitting your children's photos you are agreeing that they can be exhibited at a location of the festival organizer's discretion and also that they can be exhibited at Sydney Aquarium or UNICEF Australia if they are named as award-winners.

Amelia James-Kudlicki, Rose's mum, says:

"This is such a great competition! My daughter, Rose, has embraced the whole experience with enthusiasm. It works on so many levels - not only does the Aussie Kids Photo Festival celebrate children's unique place in the world, it gives the children themselves a kind of visual 'voice', and the encouragement to slow down and really look at the world around them. It has also been great fun to view all of the other entries and see how each child has managed to capture extraordinary images in places that many of us would overlook."
